THE victory of Soie D’Leau in the 5f maiden for three-year-olds was all the sweeter for Tim and Tina Pople, from Norton Grove Stud, as both of the gelding’s parents reside at the Malton stud, namely his sire Monsieur Bond and his dam Silky Silence.
The Poples own Soie D’Leau as part of the FATJ partnership and a delighted Tina Pople said: “Having the mare and the stallion in the yard is brilliant.”
The stud team celebrated a Monsieur Bond Listed winner with Alfred Hutchinson at York last week, and Tim Pople said of the sire: “He’s a good commercial stallion, he’s not expensive and has had two Prix de l’Abbaye winners [Gilt Edge Girl and Move In Time], what more could you want? Silky Silence is in foal to our other stallion Milk It Mick, so it’s onwards and upwards. “
Kristin Stubbs, who trains Soie D’Leau, said: “He’s a big baby and has been learning with every run. I’m so pleased for his owners. They bred him and have been really patient. He had a few problems last year and they took him back to the stud and have given him plenty of time.
“He’s a heavy-topped horse and the ease in the ground probably helped.”
